Capturing the spirit of Venice through photographing the iconic gondolas isn’t as simple as it seems. The city moves in its own rhythm, and I quickly realized I would have to match it. The air was sweet with salt and espresso, faintly perfumed with blooming wisteria along the canal edges. The scent of damp stone and sun-warmed water clung to everything.

The city hummed with life. Gondoliers sang softly, oars tapping against wooden hulls. Water lapped against walls, a gentle percussion beneath bells ringing from distant campaniles. Tourists laughed, scooters buzzed over bridges, but the canals held their own calm, a quiet current beneath the chaos.

I wandered narrow alleys, toes warm on sunlit cobblestones, occasionally tasting the tang of salt in the air. The heat clung like velvet, the wind off the Grand Canal brushing my cheeks, carrying whispers of pastries, fresh seafood, and the faint musk of old wood.
