The river slides beneath the bridge, green and slow, breaking the sun into fragments. I stand back from the bank where the whole span comes into view—stone arches holding up a street of small shops, timber and tile stacked over water. From here, the bridge reads like a timeline you can cross with your eyes. Centuries layered in one line.

The day carries its noise across the water: the murmur of crowds, the scrape of footsteps on old stone, a burst of laughter drifting down from the span. A boat motor coughs, then fades. Light hits the shop windows and throws flashes into the current. The bridge answers with shadows, long and steady.

I lower the camera and try to see past the present. I imagine merchants weighing gold where tourists now pause, messengers threading through the crowd, footsteps from other centuries laid directly beneath today’s. The bridge has burned, been rebuilt, been walked and worked and worn smooth by time. For a moment, the noise thins and the centuries stack neatly in my mind. The same arches, the same river, different lives crossing the same stone—and I’m standing in the middle of it, borrowing one small frame from a very long story.
