Mystic, Connecticut- Working Harbor & Summer Light
By Patricia Mezzina
Wildlife & Travel Photographer
I was standing along the edge of the harbor grass when the red hull came into view, bold and unapologetic against the quiet water. Mystic is known for its maritime legacy, and within sight of the historic docks and the spirit of Mystic Seaport Museum, this vessel felt like a bridge between eras — working lines, practical build, no pretense.
The sky was wide and summer-blue, clouds stacked like sailcloth overhead. What drew me in wasn’t just the color contrast — it was the stillness. The boat rested, moored and silent, its reflection trembling slightly in the tide. To the right, a wooden vessel sat on land, ribs exposed to air and time. Past and present sharing the same frame.
