Harbor Chapel of Mykonos, Greece
By Patricia Mezzina

The midday light along the harbor has a way of turning everything luminous. The sea shifts between deep turquoise and cobalt, and the whitewashed buildings scattered across the hillside glow against the sky. Along the waterfront, this small Greek Orthodox chapel stands quietly beside the water, its blue dome echoing the colors of the Aegean beyond it.
I paused here for a while, watching the harbor move at its own pace. A wooden sailing vessel drifted gently in the distance, its masts rising above the waterline like markers of an older maritime world. The Greek flag snapped softly in the wind while the chapel’s open doorway offered a dark, cool contrast to the bright afternoon.
What drew me in most was the simplicity. A place of faith facing the sea. Wildflowers tucked into the alcoves, the chapel walls weathered by salt air, and the endless rhythm of boats arriving and leaving the harbor.
Moments like this remind me that the Mediterranean isn’t just about grand ruins or crowded beaches. Sometimes the most powerful scenes are the quiet ones — a chapel, a harbor, and the steady breath of the Aegean moving through the day.
Photographed along the waterfront in Mykonos, Greece, this image captures the intersection of faith, sea, and island life — a small sanctuary standing watch over the harbor.
