The first thing I noticed wasn’t the color—it was the sound. A low, steady hum drifting across the field, carried on warm New Jersey air thick with late-summer sweetness. Then the color hit me all at once—rows of sunflowers, bold and unapologetic, stretching toward the sky like they had nowhere else to be.
I stepped into the field just as the light softened into that golden edge photographers chase but never quite control. The petals glowed—deep yellows edged in amber—while the centers held their dark, quiet gravity.
