The boardwalk at Point Pleasant Beach hums with a kind of electricity you can’t quite explain—you feel it more than you hear it. Laughter drifts through the salt air, the scent of fried food and ocean breeze mixing into something unmistakably summer.
I stood there after dark, watching the swing ride come alive.
With the right shutter speed, the chaos transforms. What was once a blur of motion becomes something almost hypnotic—rings of fire and color suspended against the night sky. The riders disappear into streaks of light, their joy etched into glowing arcs that circle endlessly above the boardwalk.
This is what long exposure does—it slows time just enough to reveal something we don’t usually see. Not just motion, but memory in motion.
Each rotation feels like a heartbeat of summer. Fleeting. Bright. Impossible to hold onto.
And yet, for a fraction of a second, I did.
